PT Astra International–Peugeot saat ini menawarkan dua varian 207, yaitu 207 Comfort dan 207 Premium, yang kesemuanya diboyong secara utuh dari Prancis. Dan sejak diperkenalkan pertama kali tahun 2006, 207 telah terjual lebih dari satu juta unit di dunia dan pernah mencatatkan diri sebagai The Best Selling Car di Eropa tahun 2007.

Sejatinya, 207 merupakan salah satu rival utama dari Honda Jazz dan Toyota Yaris di kelas small hatchback. Sayangnya, tingginya banderol membuatnya tidak kompetitif di Indonesia. Padahal, 207 mengusung semua keunggulan teknis milik pabrikan Singa Prancis. Selain itu, pada varian teranyarnya yang dilansir di Indonesia akhir tahun 2008 lalu, Peugeot menawarkan teknologi transmisi baru, yaitu 2-tronic.Ini merupakan transmisi semi-otomatis 5-speed dengan kemampuan pilihan beroperasi secara manual dan otomatis.

Desain & Rekayasa
Peugeot 207 Premium menggendong mesin EP3 1,4 liter bertenaga 113 hp dengan torsi maksimum 136 Nm. Sementara 207 Comfort yang kami uji menggunakan mesin ET3 yang tenaganya 5 hp lebih kecil (103 hp) dibandingkan 207 bermesin EP3, selain torsinya yang juga hanya 133 Nm. Namun, fokus utama rekayasa teknologi pada 207 yang kami uji adalah soal transmisi 2-Tronic yang diusungnya.

Transmisi ini pada dasarnya adalah transmisi manual MA-5 yang juga diusung oleh 207 Comfort, namun ditambahkan clutch actuator dan gear actuator yang dikontrol secara elektronik untuk proses perpindahan gear secara otomatis. Pada mode otomatis, perpindahan gear akan dilakukan sesuai gaya pengemudian dan kondisi jalan yang terekam oleh ECU (electronic control unit).

Interior
Dengan sosok yang lebih besar dibandingkan 206, tentunya 207 menyuguhkan kabin yang lebih lapang. Soal kualitas kabin, Peugeot berusaha keras dengan menyuguhkan material yang jauh lebih baik dibandingkan rival-rival Jepang-nya. Sementara itu, memang potongan dashboard dan tata letak tombol-tombol pengendali di kabin tampak sederhana, namun terasa ergonomis.

Di bagian atas dashboard, terdapat layar kecil yang menjadi pusat informasi (multi information display). Baik sistem audio maupun pengaturan peranti mobil bisa dilakukan di sini, antara lain pengaturan penguncian mobil secara otomatis, serta informasi mengenai konsumsi bahan bakar (real time dan rata-rata), kecepatan rata-rata, juga jarak yang telah ditempuh. Dan untuk kemudahan mengoperasikan sistem audio, terdapat tombol pengendali jarak jauh (remote) yang terdapat di kolom kemudi.

Performa
Tenaga puncak mesin ET3 yang hanya 108 hp memang membuat performa yang dihasilkan 207 Comfort 2-tronic tak seresponsif rival-nya. Penggunaan kopling otomatis yang dikendalikan oleh ECU membuat respon akselerasi 207 menjadi lambat saat pedal akselerator diinjak penuh. Saat uji akselerasi ini dilakukan dalam mode otomatis, perpindahan gear satu ke dua baru terjadi di putaran mesin 6.500 rpm dan dengan jeda yang cukup menganggu, sehingga mobil seakan sempat kehilangan torsi yang dibutuhkan. Hal ini juga terjadi pada saat gear berpindah dari dua ke tiga, namun jedanya sedikit lebih singkat.

Sementara saat menggunakan mode perpindahan manual melalui paddle shift, perpindahan gear bisa dilakukan sebelum putaran mesin menyentuh 6.000 rpm. Alhasil, waktu yang dicatatkan untuk berakselerasi 0–100 kpj pun semakin baik. Untuk kinerja pengereman, meskipun 207 masih menggunakan rem tromol di bagian belakang, penggunaan ABS, EBD, dan EBA dapat menciptakan jarak pengereman yang singkat.

The Kia Rio nameplate applies to a family of inexpensive, South Korean-produced subcompact sedans and hatchbacks. The Rio has for many years been among the lowest-priced models for sale in the U.S. market—with a strong set of features for the money—but with its last redesign, for the 2012 model year, it makes significant advances in design and technology. Current alternatives to the Rio include the Chevrolet Sonic (Aveo), Hyundai Accent, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, and Mazda Mazda2.

There have been three distinct generations of the Rio. With the first, introduced for the 2001 model year, the Rio joined the Sephia (later to be succeeded by the Spectra and Forte) and the Sportage as the third model in Kia's lineup. This first-gen Rio was powered by a 96-horsepower, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (upgraded to 104 hp for 2003), along with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. For these models, we found the Rio to be assembled reasonably well for its sub-$9,000 price tag, although its materials and lack of refinement were obvious sore points. A Rio Cinco wagon (or five-door hatchback) model that joined the lineup for 2002 offered a lot of space and versatility for a very low price, however.  

The second-generation Rio that was introduced in 2007 caught up with rival models in many respects—and it was the first Rio to share its underpinnings with the Hyundai Accent, as it has ever since. At the time it arrived, the Rio had one of the better interiors in its class—even if it wasn't all that exciting in design—as well as much-improved ride quality. A smooth new 110-hp, 1.6-liter four gave it more gusto, while transmissions remained a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Unfortunately, while this was one of the better-equipped cars in its class for a few years—with standard side airbags—it had some of the lowest crash-test ratings. A Rio5 five-door hatchback model was introduced for 2008, although only in the somewhat more expensive LX trim.

That version of the Rio continued on until 2012, when an all-new third-generation model was introduced. Compared to the previous Rio, this car was not only much sportier and more attractive inside and out but also more engaging to drive, with improved safety as well as more tech features than ever. With its design replacing the old bland, bubbly designs with crisp details and lots of body sculpting, the Rio looks nicely proportioned—especially in sedan form—compared to rival models. A smooth 1.6-liter, direct-injection four-cylinder engine makes 138 hp and is paired with six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions, and EPA figures land at 30 mpg city, 40 highway. Most noteworthy is that Kia is phasing in the availability of an engine start-stop system in the Rio; for $400, it smartly shuts off the engine at stoplights and restarts it as soon as it's again needed.

Prices for the 2012 Rio were up substantially from 2011, but the all-new model offered a much-improved feature set, now including steering-wheel audio controls, a USB port, and standard satellite radio compatibility. The EX models add air conditioning, power accessories, cruise control, tilt/telescopic steering, and Bluetooth, while top-of-the-line SX models get LED exterior lighting, heated mirrors, fog lamps, and other upgrades. There's also an optional navigation system or UVO connectivity interface.

Honda JAZZ

Which is why it’s such a shame that the Honda Jazz Si that the Japanese automaker recently debuted at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, only packs the European-spec 1.4L, four-cylinder with a whopping 98-hp. Sure the Jazz (known as the Fit in the U.S.) is meant to be an economy car, but so was the Civic.

So what makes this special edition Jazz Si special? Well it features a new body kit on the exterior, no doubt giving it a sportier appearance, further improved by the 16-inch wheels. Handling has also been enhanced with a larger front sway bar and the electronic power steering system has been tweaked for improved feel and response.

On the inside, Honda outfits the Jazz Si with black and silver supportive seats and a sporty leather-trimmed steering wheel.

But alas, with just 98-hp and 94 lb-ft of torque, this Jazz Si is hardly fit to sport the Si badge. In Honda’s defense however, the Si badge doesn’t have the same prestige in Europe as it does in America. If Honda plans on bringing a Fit Si to the U.S. however, it better live up to its “sport injected” name.
